TORNADO WATCH

Atmospheric conditions are favorable for the formation of tornadoes. Tornado watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center and are generally in effect for about 6 hours, usually covering hundreds of square miles. This is the time to make necessary preparations in the event that a tornado approaches your area.


SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH

Atmospheric conditions are favorable for the formation of severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center and are generally in effect for about six hours, usually covering hundreds of square miles. This is the time to make necessary preparations in the event that a severe thunderstorm approaches your area.


FLASH FLOOD WATCH

Atmospheric and ground conditions are favorable for flooding. Flash flood watches are issued by the local National Weather Service Office and are generally in effect from 6 to 12 hours, sometimes longer. This is the time to make necessay preparations in the event that flooding occurs.


ICE STORM WATCH

Atmospheric conditions are favorable for potentially dangerous winter weather situations. Such as significant ice accumulations. As a result, walking and driving could possibly become extremely dangerous.


TORNADO WARNING

A tornado has been spotted or has been indicated on radar. Seek shelter immediately!Tornado warnings are usually in effect for 30 to 45 minutes and are issued by the local National Weather Service Forecast Office for one, or portions of one county/parish.


SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

A severe thunderstorm has been spotted or is indicated on radar. Stay indoors until the storm has passed by. Severe thunderstorm warnings are generally in effect for about 30 to 60 minutes and are issued by the local National Weather Service Forecast Office for one or more, or sometimes portions of one or more counties/parishes.


FLASH FLOOD WARNING

Flooding has been reported or is indicated by radar. Move to higher ground but NEVER try to drive or walk through water, especially fast flowing water, of unknown depth! Flash flood warnings are generally in effect for about 3 hours and are issued by the local National Weather Service Forecast Office for one or more counties/parishes.


ICE STORM WARNING

Posted to warn the public of a potentially dangerous winter weather situation with significant ice (glaze). Accumulations are usually 1/4 inch or greater during a freezing rain episode. As a result, walking and driving is expected to become extremely dangerous.
