QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW

Education - 10 years as Assistant Professor of Computer Science/Information Systems teaching Computer Science courses and Software Project Management courses. Research interests are in the area of Software Engineering. Spent the summers of 1993 and 1994 as a Summer Faculty Fellow doing research for NASA at the Johnston Space Center in Houston. Taught one year at the Ningbo Institute of Technology in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China.  Courses were Oral English, American Literature and American Culture. Recently taught English courses at East China Jiaotong University in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China.

Management - Widely diverse management experience ranging from Senior Manager responsible for an entire Computer Information Systems Shop to large corporation headquarters staff management responsible for product marketing and senior level staff assignments. Managed many software development projects. My previous management assignment was as a Project Manager for IBM Global Services (CTG) managing the planning, sizing, and acquisition of resources to conduct worldwide end-to-end Y2K testing of IBM’s Product Support Process Applications.

Technical - Extremely broad technical experience in all Computer Science and Information Systems areas, including Application Software Analysis, Design and Development; Systems Software Development; Computer Hardware Requirements; Data Base/Data Communications Systems; and the use of formal life cycle development methodologies.  Completely literate in the use of PC tools, i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, MS Project, Internet including Web Page development using Front Page.

Personal Assets - Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written. Effective communicator at all levels from high-level customer executives to end-users. Excellent presenter with top notch leadership ability. Strong team leader and player. Self-starting, self-directing, dedicated, loyal and tried retirement but it didn't work.

WORK EXPERIENCE

English Professor, 02/04 - 07/04.  East China Jiaotong University, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China.  Taught Chinese University Students.  Courses included Oral English (using special debate rules devised at NIT), Listening and Speaking English, International Business Etiquette. 

English Professor, 12/02 - 11/03.  Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China.  Came out of retirement to accept an assignment to the Ningbo Institute of Technology as a Professor teaching English as a second language to Chinese university students.  The focus is on Oral English emphasizing Voice Projection, English Word Pronunciation, Proper English Grammar and Listener Control.  Also taught American Literature and American Culture.  Developed a set of debate rules based on Parliamentary Debate that maximized the English speaking of students.

Retired, Longhorn W Ranch, Durant, OK. 2/00 - 12/02.  Responsibilities included Puttering, Clearing three years of items off the "Honey Do" list, being a Grandpa to my lovely three grandchildren, participated in some Chili-Cookoffs and being webmaster for my late Uncle Lynn Weber. Tried my hand in art of Blacksmithing.  To fill in my spare time my son asked me to write/modify some Visual Basic programs for ISC Computers customers.  In addition to writing and maintaining several Visual Basic Programs for the Choctaw Nation, was a Project Manager managing and facilitating activities for finding and replacing the IBM AS/400 Tenant Management System at the Choctaw Nation Housing Authority.  In addition to the above, wrote several Cold Fusion programs for ISC Computers and developed websites for the Baptist Resort Ministries of Oklahoma and Roberta Baptist Church.

Project Manager, IBM Global Services (CTG), Austin, TX. 12/98 – 1/00. Product Support Process (PSP) Account Manager for the Y2K Extended System Integration Test (ESIT). Responsibilities included: Represented the Service Delivery Centers, managed the PSP (Product Support Process) account. This required identifying the US infrastructure required to support the worldwide PSP Y2K ESIT project. After the requirements were identified negotiated and coordinated the building of the infrastructure on time and with appropriate quality and costs. During the testing activity ensured continued availability of the infrastructure, escalating issues to ensure problems are solved in a timely manner. As the Account Manager for PSP, maintained good customer rapport, and satisfaction by ensuring the proper resources are available for the testing activity.

Project Manager, IBM Global Services (Quatrix Consulting), Bridgewater, NJ. 5/98 – 11/98. Responsibilities included the second line management of a department of programmers responsible for the implementation of an IBM Global Services contract to migrate National Starch and Chemical's Legacy Applications from an IBM S/390 with MVS/XA, to an IBM RISC/6000 SP system. In addition to the direct management of a staff of IBM employees, contract consultants and National Starch employees, duties required management of a subcontract with Ordina UK International for migration code conversion and Y2K compliant code conversion. Responsibilities included employee recruiting, hiring, dismissal, planning, organizing, and motivating and executive presentations and status reporting.

Senior Consultant, DCI (Decisions Consultants Inc.), Tulsa, OK. 11/97 – 5/98. Senior Consultant and team lead for Year 2000 Projects for SABRE (American Airlines). Duties included analyzing and documenting legacy systems, developing and designing Y2K test plans, and testing PL/1, COBOL, IMS, and DB2 Systems to ensure Y2K compliance.

Project Manager CTG, Irving, Texas, 7/97 – 10/97. Managed a department of over 40 application programmers who were developing and maintaining applications for a large insurance firm. These applications range in platforms from large CICS/IMS/MVS/VSAM/COBOL mainframe platforms to distributed processing PC platforms written in Micro Focus COBOL. Duties included client interface, project scheduling, prioritization, team hiring, team motivation, counseling and directing professionals with many years in the Insurance business. Although these duties are normal managerial duties, I am extremely competent at managing successful projects that meet the tenets of a successful software project, On-time, Within Budget and The Users like it.

Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Information Systems, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Oklahoma, 8/87- 6/97. Assistant Professor, teaching courses in both Computer Science and Information Systems such as Software Engineering and Project Management, Introduction and Advanced Business Programming (Structured and Object Oriented COBOL), Visual BASIC, Artificial Intelligence/Expert Systems, FORTRAN, C, Graduate Courses in Programming for Management, Data Communications, Data Base Management Systems, etc. Research interests are in the area of Software Engineering, especially in the use of Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools and Object Oriented Analysis and Design. The summers of 1993 and 1994 were spent as a Summer Faculty Fellow with NASA in Houston, doing research on different Methodologies and Life Cycles for the Systems Analysis, Design and implementation of software systems.

President, International Software Consultants, Inc. 5/94 - 6/97. While a full time college professor I founded a software development company that has grown to include a computer retail store and Internet Service Provider (Check out our web site - http://www.isc-durant.com ). While in this position, managed several software projects in the gaming industry. The projects were client/server systems written in Visual BASIC operating in a LAN/WAN environment. This business is a family business that I have turned over to my two sons so that I could pursue new challenges.

Product Support Manager, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Irving, Texas, 1/87 - 7/87. Senior Level Manager responsible for technical support of product development departments in the application development center. Managed several departments responsible for support activities such as Architecture and Standards, Software Usability Test Laboratory, Functional Testing (Quality Assurance), Support Tools, System Development Life Cycle, etc.

Requirements Manager, IBM, Irving, Texas, 4/85 - 1/87. Department Manager responsible for the development of Application Requirements and Project Office Management of Intelligent Workstation Applications for IBM Branch Office administration. Program Manager, IBM, Irving, Texas, 4/83 - 4/85. Manage and facilitate projects to improve the business process for IBM Software Products and associated Publications as well as IBM PC products. These projects involved the coordination of activities across many IBM organizations including Branch Office Administration, Sales Support, Product Distribution, Service and Information Systems.

Senior Staff Planner, IBM, Group Headquarters-Software Distribution Programs, Rye Brook, New York, 1982 - 1983. In addition to general staff work, responsible for planning and coordinating corporate wide projects to improve the software order and distribution process from product development to customer distribution.

Adjunct Professor, (IBM Corp. Faculty Loan Program), Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma, 1980-82. Taught Management, Computer Science and Mathematics courses, developed a special mathematics course for students with math anxiety, participated in college recruiting activities, worked on computer linguistics projects and establishing a computer science department.

Program Manager, IBM, Data Processing Marketing Group, White Plains, New York, 1976-80. Managed the introduction of new productivity software products to the marketplace. Managed a Worldwide Planning Project to develop VSE SIPO/E market requirements. In addition to coordinating the efforts of representatives from IBM World Trade and Domestic U. S. organizations, developed forecast assumptions, negotiated forecasts, pricing, legal and marketing practices approval, and service plan for the product through announcement and delivery.

Sr. Product Administrator, IBM, Data Processing Division, 1973- 76. Responsible for the marketing of various software products and key area programs such as installability assurance programs for complex systems. Responsible for the development, announcement, and support of the first DPD IPO.

Development Manager, IBM, Program Information Department, 1967-73. Third Line Manager of Data Processing Application Development Organization consisting of Planners, Analysts, and Programmers. Project Manager of a large programming project that developed a Software Distribution System that included Order Entry, Production Scheduling, Quality Control, and Inventory Control.

System Test Manager, IBM, Operating System 360, 1964-67. Third Line Project Manager responsible managing an organization responsible for System Testing OS/360 prior to release to customers. Pioneered new software testing techniques.

Project Leader, IBM, OS/360 COBOL Design, 1963-64. Coordinated the design of the OS/360 COBOL F Compiler. Worked with CODYASYL committee members to establish new COBOL language features such as Indexed and Relative File Processing and the Report Writer Feature.

Captain, U.S. Air Force; Chief, System Programming Department, Headquarters, USAF, Pentagon, 1960-63. Managed a department responsible for all System Programming tasks required to support the Headquarters USAF Computing Center. Technical Assistant to one of the CODYASYL committee members. Instrumental in establishing COBOL as the official Data Processing Language for the USAF.

1st Lt. USAF, Application Programmer, Ballistic Missile Logistics Systems, Norton A.F. Base, San Bernardino, California, 1957- 59. Lead Programmer that programmed and coordinated other programmers in developing software to support the Atlas, Titian, and Thor ICBMs.
